Since it is Good Friday, I’d like to share some good news. The results from yesterday’s PET scan via text from my oncologist. (Yes, we are social distancing, and no, she would never text bad news).
“Slow and steady wins the race! Ongoing improvement in liver with less uptake (uptake is bad so less is what we want), no new areas, breast stable. Whoopee!”
Stable means not growing, not shrinking. Not growing is more important than not shrinking.
While initially I was disappointed there was no shrinkage, because ultimately I would love the cancer gone, I realized I need to change the way I am looking at this. No growth, means it’s not spreading and the treatment is working. I get to keep living.
And lastly, some reflections of today.
- God is great! - Cancer patients are some of the strongest, most resilient people. And this may not be by choice, but when you want to live, it’s your only option. I am stronger, tougher than I could have ever imagined. - Where you are now, is not where you are always going to be (interpret that any way you like). - Everyone has far more blessings than misfortunes. Make the choice to see them every day. - If you place your trust and faith in God, you will experience the ultimate comfort. - We all have a purpose in life. We all touch lives in ways we will never fully comprehend. Don’t underestimate your significance.
